Keeping Pests Out Of Your Home Surprising Hacks

It’s going to be summer again soon. We all know that means more critters will be out and about. Unfortunately, sometimes these unwelcome critters make their way into our homes. The best way to get rid of pests is to take steps to prevent them from getting into your home in the first place. Here are some hacks you might not have considered to keep the pests out.

1. Fill In Holes

We all know that most pests gain access to our home through holes. When you notice one of these possible entry ways, fill in the hole with caulk or steel wool. If for some reason you can’t seem to fill the hole, try putting bricks in its way.

2. Leave Out Toxins

Apparently many critters find antifreeze delicious. It has a sweet scent to it that makes mice and other pests eat it before they realize they’ve made a big mistake. Leave out little dishes of antifreeze to help destroy any pests that have made their way into your home. Of course, label the dish and consider other options if you have young children or pets who might get into it.

3. Set Traps

When you’ve had enough with little intruders, it’s time to go on the offense. Set up traps. There are many types of traps available, so get the one that you like the best. Some people prefer sticky traps to prevent the mouse from getting its neck snapped, other people find the spring quicker and more humane, and some people prefer less effective but more humane traps. You have options!

4. Call The Professionals

At a certain point, it’s time to call in the professionals to ensure that the job is done and done well. Washington pest control will examine your infestation and come up with the best plan for the problem. When you’ve exhausted every other option, let the professionals do their job.

5. Be Mindful of Your Food

Take a look at your pantry and cabinets to see exactly how accessible the food might be to pests. Plastic bags can easily be bitten through. It might be time to invest in containers that critters can’t get into. Look for plastic or glass containers with secure fasteners. Also, it’s a good idea to keep food off of the counters when not eating. Finally, avoid putting food in the garage if possible. It’s only inviting them in!

6. Use Oils to Deter Pests

A simple way to keep mice away while also making your home smell great is to use plenty of peppermint oil in your home. They hate the smell, so they will leave on their own if it doesn’t hurt them first. Just be careful with any pets of your own!

Having an infestation is a surprisingly common experience. Luckily, there is plenty you can do to prevent it from happening. If you don’t prevent it, there’s plenty you can do to get rid of the unwanted guests. Follow these steps, and you will notice a big difference right away.
