How To Choose A Mattress When Running On A Low Budget

Deciding on which mattress to go for when you have limited budget can look like an uphill task. Without proper information, you may buy the wrong mattress simply because it is affordable. While there are mattresses that are quite expensive, there are equally good ones that will meet your budget. And remember, that a mattress is priced at a very high rate does not mean that it is the best for you.

There are things you must put into consideration before settling for a mattress, especially if you are looking to buy something that will not only serve you but last you for a very long time. The following questions must be answered before you buy any mattress:

What is your sleeping pattern?

Knowing your sleeping pattern before shopping for a mattress will help you get a mattress that will serve you the best. The mattress you go for will be dependent on whether you sleep on your side, stomach, back, or a combination of these positions.

If you sleep on your stomach or back, you will most likely need a bed that is very firm so that your trunk and hip area will be properly supported and aligned. A mattress that is very soft will have you sinking into it and causing you to wake up with aches and pains.

For people that sleep on their side or combine the different patterns, a mattress with a little bit of softness will be a better option. You will love the way the mattress feels when you are laying on your side. However, if you are majorly a combination sleeper, it means that a mattress with some firmness will be most adequate. But remember that the way a mattress feels to you is dependent on your body size and type.

Who is going to make use of the mattress?

It is very important that you decide who the mattress is meant for before buying one. There are some basic types of bed that will serve you especially if you are on a budget. But if you love to have some extra features, you may have to spend more.

If the mattress is meant only for you and your weight is around 150lb, you will not have to pay so much to get a mattress. On the other hand, if you are a couple and your partner is bigger in size or a different sleeper from you, your budget might have to increase a little so that you can get something a little bit more expensive to serve you both.

And while at it, ensure that the mattress has good motion transfer control so that none of you will wake the other up when turning over or getting up from the bed.

How to choose a mattress - memory foam mattress

What is the mattress made of?

The material used in making a mattress will definitely affect its cost. Obviously, a mattress that is 13 inches will cost more than the one that is 10 inches. The reason is that the former has more layers than the later. Speaking of materials, do note that there are two basic types of materials used in constructing a mattress which are: coil and foam.

For foam, you have latex, poly, and memory foams or a combination of all. For coils, it could be traditional innersprings or pocketed coils. If the mattress is made with only foam, the price will definitely be cheaper than the hybrid mattress which is a combination of pocketed coils and foam. If you are going for an all-foam mattress, check if it is CeriPUR-US certified to be sure it is free of harmful chemicals.

Knowing the different types of mattresses

We have already mentioned that what a mattress is made up of determines how much it goes for. But to help you make an informed decision when buying, here is a brief look into the various types of mattress you can choose from:

Latex mattress – this mattress is very airy and bouncy and has a spongy feeling to it.

Memory foam mattress – this mattress is at first dense and then softens over time. It has a sink-in feel. There is also an improvement called Gel memory foam. This comes with a gel that helps to regulate temperature.

Spring/coil/hybrid mattress – we are talking about traditional innersprings or pocketed coils. Both of them are responsive and bouncy while allowing good airflow. But innerspring mattress allows for more motion because all its coils are connected unlike the pocketed that is individually encased.

Polyurethane foam – it is quite affordable and is mostly used as a support for all other types of foam mattress. It is available in different densities.

Having gone through this article, hopefully, you will be able to make up your mind on which type of mattress will best suit you even on a budget.
