Over the years, the strengthened awareness regarding increasing pollution, dwindling resources, and the skyrocketing price of fossil fuels has motivated and driven an increased investment and interest in renewable energy resources. The effects of global warming can already be experienced in our day-to-day lives. While we cannot overcome our dependence on energy, what we can do is switch over to energy forms that are more sustainable in nature. Surely, having sustainable energy obviously cannot be done overnight and the process has to be a slow and planned transition, but switching over from fossil fuels to renewable energy is the need of the hour.

3 Reasons Why Renewable Energy Sources Are the Future of Energy

Here are three reasons why renewable energy sources are the future of energy and why switching over to them from conventional sources is inevitable.

Practically Unlimited

Theoretically speaking, fossil fuels aren’t exactly limited. Fossil fuels can be formed over time and the only problem is that they take millions of years to form. It is predicted that based on our current use, the majority of the fossil fuel reserves will run out by 2052. Unless we are willing to wait for hundreds of thousands of years, we will have to transition to renewable energy sources eventually; the faster, the better. Making the transition will also take the pressure off conventional energy sources, making them available for critical uses where high energy density fuel is required. Unlike conventional energy, renewable energy is practically unlimited, albeit a bit more difficult to harness.

Higher Economic Return and Job Creation

Renewable energy presents various economic benefits over conventional energy: better price stability, energy security, job creation, and conservation of natural resources. Establishing the initial setup for harnessing renewable energy like wind farms or solar farms indeed requires a high investment, but at the same time, their beneficial returns, direct and indirect, are experienced for many years. Even at a domestic level, by getting a free solar estimate, you can easily see that you can save a lot of money. Harnessing renewable energy is practically free, saves maintenance costs. The use of renewable energy will help prevent global warming, floods, and forest fires, saving millions and millions of dollars in the long run. In the short term, making the transition would result in job creation in the order of millions.

Environmentally Friendly

The amazing thing about nature is that it heals itself, but only if we remove all the roadblocks from its way. As long as our chimneys keep spewing smoke into the atmosphere, it is unlikely that we would be able to extend the countdown to the point of no return. Renewable energy has an almost negligible impact on the environment and can help nature recover from all the damages that we have inflicted upon it.

The time to switch over to renewable energy is now; the more the delay, the scarier the consequences will be. While the immediate benefits might not be apparent, a reason for its slow acceptance and the long-term benefits cannot be debated. The awareness regarding the urgency of our situation has been on the rise and this has been reflected in the financial investments over time. Renewable energy is not just the energy of the future, but it is our only way forward.
